What am I seeing here?

Original PlayStation memory card icons are really small — only 16 pixels square! That’s awfully tiny for today’s screens so I’ve created 2 versions of each icon: one at 32 pixels that is closer to the original size and a much larger one at 256 pixels.
FUN FACT
Not only does Assault: Retribution have a memory card icon for each of its playable characters, it’s possible to generate a third icon featuring both characters by saving your game from the title screen before selecting a character.
There seems to be a bug, at least in the version of the game that I played, where if a save file already exists (say, for a playthrough as Kelly) and you start a new game as Reno, you will never see the Autosave message. No save file for Reno will be generated. Deleting all save files and starting over allowed Reno’s progress to be saved.
That’s an unintentional Hard Mode!
