Given how new MemCard.art is I was totally surprised when Darren Hupke reached out about adding our little icons to the latest volume of his book series: 32 Bit Library. Naturally I was more than happy to help out and in the upcoming tome you’ll find each game’s memory card icon near its title and release info. Of course, the icon is just part of the story and here’s what you can look forward to in the upcoming book:
32 Bit Library is a retro gaming book series for nostalgic gamers. Each volume is a curated retrospective of games from the original PlayStation library. Each game covered has a written entry discussing key details and information, not a generic review, and details on what made each title unique. Multiple screenshots from each game highlight moments and refresh readers on these classic titles, and every title has a giant double-page screenshot for visual flair. Select games covered may have additional retrospectives written from personal accounts of backers if they are selected during the campaign..
Kickstarter Description
32 Bit Library Volume 4 focuses on multiple publishers for the first time. Square, Atlus, Enix, and Working Designs are all fully covered inside. These four publishers brought over dozens of quality titles from Japan and filled the PlayStation library with RPGs, strategy, fighting, and even music/rhythm games. Looking through 60+ different games over the course of ~400 pages, you can chronologically see the evolution of these games on the PSX. Bonus essays are provided by some industry friends and collaborators.
But what if I told you there was more? Being a Kickstarter project, Darren has added several fantastic stretch goals and extras and I’m super thrilled to say that a sheet of memory card icon stickers is now one of them! This might possibly be the first time that these icons have existed in physical space. Is it a terrifying portent, the first and irreparable step in humankind melding with its silicon creations? Like… I hope not, but we’re gonna to find out soon enough. The campaign is running up to the first weekend of June and there are still extra goodies to be revealed. Best of luck Darren, I’m looking forward to the book in its entirety, but especially the icon parts.
